Evergy's proposed rate hike serves little to no benefit to its customers. According to Evergy's own testimony, 10% of customers are behind on their monthly electricity bills. With the compounding factors of inflation, rent, gas prices, etc. an increased rate for electricity bills almost seems like a shot in the foot for Evergy as even more customers would fail to meet their bill payments. I am an unemployed university student in my mid 30s. I do not receive unemployment benefits, as I worked for the US Gov for 10 years to save up to go back to school. Not only am I an Evergy customer, I RENT the place I live in. The threat of rate hikes compromises my future in finishing my curriculum, an outcome that severely negatively affects my future. |
